Group bookings

Groups of six to twenty get the long table. For anything bigger, email us and we will talk about whether you want the whole room.

Ordering for a group is simple, because you just tell us how many people are coming and whether you want the veg platter, the mixed platter or a combination, and we size it to the table. Everyone eats from the same platter, so there are no individual orders to keep track of, and entrées and extra dishes can be added on the night if the table is still hungry.

One order that covers halal, vegan, dairy-free and peanut-free guests, and anyone avoiding gluten, at the same table is the thing organisers thank us for most. Tell us the numbers for each and we build the platters around them.

Capacity

About fifty seats inside and seven small tables outside, heated and covered against the rain, with a long table for up to twenty.

Food

All our meat is halal, about half the menu is vegan, no savoury dish contains dairy or peanuts, and rice instead of injera is a free swap for anyone avoiding gluten. The questions page has the detail.

Drinks

Fully licensed, with Ethiopian lagers, wine and spirits, and BYO wine welcome with $8 corkage a bottle.

Timing

Monday to Saturday, 5:30pm until 10pm. Closed Sundays. Large groups are easiest to seat early in the evening or on a weeknight.

Groups of up to ten can book online. For anything bigger, email info@theabyssinian.com.au or call, with the date, numbers and any dietary needs, and we will confirm by return.

Catering

We can make up platters of tsebhi and injera for events held elsewhere, whether that is an office lunch, a party or a community event. The food travels well and the injera is wrapped separately so it stays soft, so give us a few days' notice and a head count and we will quote.

Something to celebrate?

Tell us when you book and we will look after the cake, the candles and the timing, and there is dessert and spiced coffee to round things off.
