Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to come in, sit down and eat well. This page says plainly what the restaurant is like, so you can decide what you need before you arrive. If anything here is a worry, call (03) 9376 8754 and we will talk it through.

Getting in

The door opens straight onto Racecourse Road. There is one step at the entrance and it is very low. We will help you over it.

The room

Tables near the door are the easiest to reach, and we will keep one for you if you ask when you book. Tell us if you would like help with the menu and we will read it to you.

There are seven small tables outside, heated and covered against the rain, if the room is not right for you.

The bathroom

The bathroom is at the back, down a narrow corridor, and may be difficult to use if you have a wheelchair or a walker. We are sorry about this and it is not something we can change in the building. If it matters for your evening, let us know and we will tell you honestly whether it will work for you.

Eating

The food is eaten by hand from a shared platter, and there is always cutlery if you would rather; just ask. Injera can be swapped for steamed rice, and the menu marks what is vegan, what is mild and what is gluten-free on rice.

When you book

Tell us anything that would make the evening easier, from where you sit to how the food is served. Online bookings take a note, or call (03) 9376 8754 or email info@theabyssinian.com.au.

This website

The menu is written out as text with prices, the site works with a keyboard and a screen reader, text can be enlarged, and animation is switched off for visitors who have asked their device to reduce motion. The booking form is provided by WowApps inside a frame; if it gives you trouble, open it in a new tab or email us. If something on the site does not work for you, email info@theabyssinian.com.au and we will fix what we can.

Book a table
